What This Trip Is Usually Like

Most days, I’m making the plan that morning based on wind, tide, water level, and where the cleanest water is. Some trips are mainly about steady redfish action. Other days, if trout are lined up and conditions are right, we may work that into the trip too. A lot of the people I fish with are staying in New Orleans and just want a straightforward day on the water. That is exactly how I try to run these trips.

Why This Is a Good Trip for People Staying in New Orleans

Less time running, more time fishing

Launching from Hopedale lets us get into productive marsh water a lot faster than trying to fish out of the city.

Trips built around the conditions

I usually start with redfish in mind, then adjust based on tide, wind, season, and what the water looks like that day.

Private trips for your group only

Every trip is private, so I can keep it easy for beginners and families or make it more focused if your group already fishes a lot.

Why We Launch From Hopedale Instead Of Downtown

A lot of people searching for New Orleans fishing charters expect the trip to leave right from the city, but that usually means more running and less time in the kind of marsh water I actually want to fish.

Launching from Hopedale gives me quicker access to redfish water, less crowded boat traffic, and more flexibility if the wind or tide changes.

    • Faster access to marsh water

    • Less time making long runs

    • Better redfish habitat

    • More room to adjust for weather and tides

What You'll Catch on Most Trips

Redfish Fishing Near New Orleans

Redfish are the main target on most of my trips. They’re dependable, they fight hard, and they’re one of the best fish here for both beginners and experienced anglers.

Depending on conditions, I may look for them around marsh drains, shallow ponds, shorelines, broken banks, or protected interior water.

We commonly fish for redfish around:

  • Marsh drains on falling tides

  • Shallow ponds during higher water

  • Shoreline grass and points

  • Protected areas when weather shifts

Speckled Trout Fishing Near New Orleans

Trout are usually the second option I’m thinking about, and when the season and conditions line up, they can make the trip even better. Some times of year we may spend more time around trout. Other days, redfish are the better play from the start.

If you would like to strictly target trout I can accommodate that as well.

We commonly target trout around:

  • Oyster reefs and shell bottom

  • Current lines and moving water

  • Deeper bays and transitions

  • Structure holding bait
